History
1946
A young entrepreneur, KM Mammen Mappillai, opened a small toy balloon unit manufacturing in a shed in Tiruvottiyur, Madras (now Chennai).
1949
Although the factory was just a small shed without any type of equipment, a variety of products ranging from latex balloons and plaster-squeak toys to industrial gloves and contraceptives, were produced. During this time, MRF established its first office in 334 Thambu Chetty Street, Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India.
1952
MRF ventured in the manufacture of the tread rubber. And with that, the first machine, a rubber factory, was installed at the factory. This step in the manufacture of tread of rubber, which later catapult MRF into a league that few had imagined.
1955
MRF soon became the only unit india property to manufacture than extruded, no flowers and cushion supported by the tread rubber, allowing it to compete with multinationals operating in India at that time.
1956
The quality of manufactured products was so high that by the end of 1956, MRF had become the market leader with a 50% share of the tread rubber in India. So effective was MRF position in the market that the majors had no choice to withdraw from the business of the tread rubber in India.
1960
The company was incorporated as a limited liability company, the 5 November. 1964
With the commissioning of main plant in 1964, MRF also made progress in exporting tires. An overseas office in Beirut
(Lebanon) was established to develop the export market, and was among the first efforts in India. This year also marked the birth of the now famous MRF Muscleman.
1967
MRF became the first Indian company to export to the U.S. tire – The very cradle of tire technology.
1970
In March, 5,62,500 bonus shares issued in the ratio 3:10.
1973
MRF scored a breakthrough by being among the first in India to manufacture and market nylon tires.
1975
During September, issued 12,18,714 bonus shares in 1:2 ratio. (Only 12,18,689 shares recovered).
1978
The company ended technical know-how together with BF Goodrich Co., USA, which entered fully into the beginning of 1980-81.
This agreement was renewed for another five years.
1979
Mansfield Tire & Rubber Co., USA offered for sale outside of their participation 3,74,250 No. of equity shares of 10 rupees each of the Company

1980

1981

shares of Rs 35 each from May 8, 1993 with a premium of 5% in the first tranche. Under the regime of non-cumulative interest payments, bonds are redeemable in five equal annual installments of Rs 20 each comencing of May 8, 1991, at a premium of 5% be paid on May 8, 1993.
1987

1988

Other activities
MRF has been involved in the development of cricket through its sponsorship of many cricketers and the MRF pace foundation. At one point in time, MRF was the bat sponsor of world-class batsmen including Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar and Australian captain Steve Waugh.
After Waugh and Lara's retirement from international cricket, the September 4, 2009, MRF contract also expired with Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin now uses bats Adidas, and MRF are currently sponsoring and Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, two other members of India's cricket team.
