The history of rubber bands
The ancient Maya used the latex to make room for human figures, rubber balls and used as links to ensure the ax head to the handle as well as other functions. Latex is the result of several plants, the most important is the rubber tree when exposed to air, hardens into an elastic dough. The Mayans learned to mix the rubber sap with juice from morning glory vines that became more elastic and durable.
Later, in 1736, a few rubber laminated sheets were sent to France in 1791, Samuel Peel invented a new way of waterproofing cloth by mixing turpentine with rubber. Another British inventor named Joseph Priestley discovered that rubber could be used to erase pencil marks. Thomas Hancock is the person who invented the British rubber industry. He designed the muncher – a machine capable of crushing the waste rubber allowing the rubber to be recycled after have been formed into blocks or rolled into sheets. In the 19th century, to be more specific in 1820, patented elastic fasteners for shoes, suspenders, socks and gloves.
In order to help preserve rubber, Hancock invented the masticator. The first was a wooden machine that uses a hollow cylinder dotted of teeth. In 1823, Charles Macintosh patented his method of using impermeable clothing, rubber dissolved in coal tar naphtha for cementing two pieces of cloth together. A few years later, in 1837 patented the chewing that was used in large scale since then. Chewing wood became a driven machine metal fume that was used to supply the Macintosh factory with chewed gum.

At present, approximately three quarters of the rubber is made from oil production oil. There are 20 grades of synthetic rubber and intended end use determines the selection. In general terms, to synthetic rubber, byproducts of the refining oil called styrene and butadiene are mixed in a reactor containing soapsuds. From this, a milky liquid latex results and coagulates the liquid, resulting in rubber "crumbs" that are made by many manufacturers and later cast in a variety of products.
Worldwide Today, only one type of Natural Rubber. Due to the reason that rubber plants are found in warm, humid regions near the Ecuador, 90% of production rubber takes place in Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. Because production in Indonesia has declined in recent years, several plantations were built in Africa in order to fill the gap.
